REACT Conference in Belgrade, May 16-17,2011

The REACT FP7 Conference that took place in Serbia, Belgrade the 16th and 17th of May, confirmed the increased interest of the European and international research community on the need to shape future direction of research in climate friendly transport. The 2 days conference that was hosted at the Belgrade Chamber of Commerce with the support of the University of Belgrade was welcomed by the Serbian national and local authorities and media, members of the European parliament and important academic and industry stakeholders.

The Conference attracted a wide audience of more than 150 participants who had the opportunity to attend scientific and informative presentations and participate to open discussions and round tables on emerging issues of research in climate friendly transport. During the conference participants got informed on the latest developments of some of the most important research trends in Europe as well as EU’s future funding priorities and vision towards a common European transport policy.

The REACT conference focused on and analysed mainly three thematic fields that integrated the need for further promotion of research and the importance of successful policy implementation. During the plenary and 6 parallel sessions experts and participants confirmed the belief that research in new technologies combined with an integrated adoption of best case policy interventions can lead to substantial cuts in green house gases emissions in Europe. Dave Wright of Coventry University underlines that “It becomes more and more evident that today progress in climate friendly technology should go hand in hand with changes in public attitudes and modal swift, integrating notions that have multiple social effects such as transport safety”.
The REACT international conference on climate friendly transport will publish the 2 days proceedings in an official publication containing all abstracts and scientific papers of the participants.
